Automatic Network Failover

When one network goes down, your device moves to another.

Carrier outages happen, and so do dead spots, tower maintenance, and congestion. A device with a single-carrier SIM simply goes offline. A device with a Sturdy SIM has other networks to turn to, because it is permitted on more than 200 of them.

Why connections fail

A cellular connection can be lost for many reasons. A carrier can suffer a regional outage. A tower can be taken down for maintenance. A new building can block a signal that used to be strong. A vehicle can drive out of one carrier's coverage and into another's. None of these is unusual, and all of them take a single-carrier device offline.

How a multi-network SIM responds

A cellular modem continually measures the networks it can hear. With an ordinary SIM, only one of those networks will accept it. With a Sturdy SIM, the device is permitted on more than 200 networks, so when the one it is using can no longer be reached, the modem can register on another that is in range and the data session resumes.

No site visit required

The traditional remedy for a device with poor coverage is to send a technician with a SIM from a different carrier. For a fleet of devices spread across a region or a country, that cost is considerable. With a multi-network SIM, the alternative networks are already available on the card that is installed.

What failover depends on

Failover relies on a second network being in range and on the device supporting that network's frequency bands and technology. Most modern LTE modules cover the bands used by the major networks, and we are glad to review your hardware with you. The time a device takes to move from one network to another is determined by its modem and its settings.

Guaranteed 100% reliable

Because a Sturdy SIM draws on multiple carriers and does not depend on any one of them, we guarantee 100% reliable connectivity. A single carrier cannot make that promise, because a single carrier can fail. A SIM with many carriers behind it can.

A second path for a wired connection

Many organizations use a cellular router as a backup for a cable or fiber connection. A backup link that depends on one carrier has the same weakness as the primary link. A Sturdy SIM gives the backup connection more than one network to rely on.

What is included

Automatic Network Failover: what we provide

01

Many networks in reach

A device is not limited to the coverage of one carrier.

02

Outage protection

A carrier outage need not take your equipment offline.

03

No SIM swaps

The alternative networks are already on the installed card.

04

Fixed or mobile

Suited to permanent installations and to devices that travel.

05

Backup internet

A dependable second path for routers with a wired primary link.

06

100% reliability guarantee

Connectivity is guaranteed, because no single carrier is relied upon.

Questions

Common questions

Is connectivity guaranteed?

Yes. Because a Sturdy SIM draws on multiple carriers and does not depend on any one of them, we guarantee 100% reliable connectivity.

Does my device need two SIM slots for failover?

No. A single Sturdy SIM is permitted on more than 200 networks, so one card in one slot gives the device more than one network to use.

How quickly does a device change networks?

That depends on the modem in the device and how it is configured. Some devices move within seconds, while others wait until the current network has been lost for a set period. We can advise on settings for your hardware.
