Data-Only Connectivity
Cellular data for devices, and nothing they do not need.
A connected device does not make phone calls. It sends readings, receives instructions, processes a payment, or uploads a picture. Sturdy SIM provides the data connection that work requires, without the voice service that a phone plan is built around.
IoT and M2M, briefly
IoT stands for the Internet of Things, and M2M for machine to machine. Both describe equipment that communicates without a person operating it: a tracker reporting a location, a meter reporting a reading, a terminal authorizing a payment. These devices need a data connection that is dependable and unattended.
Why not use a phone plan
Consumer plans are designed for a person with a handset. They bundle voice minutes and text messages that a device will never use, they are tied to one carrier, and their terms often prohibit use in unattended equipment. A SIM made for devices avoids each of those problems.
What data-only means
A Sturdy SIM carries internet data. It does not provide a voice line, so it cannot be used to place or receive telephone calls, and it is not intended for use in a mobile phone as a replacement for a phone plan. Removing voice also removes a service that would otherwise have to be secured against misuse.
The devices it suits
A Sturdy SIM is appropriate for cellular routers and gateways, vehicle and asset trackers, payment terminals and kiosks, digital signs, cameras, alarm communicators that report over data, industrial controllers, and remote sensors. If your equipment has a SIM slot and uses cellular data, we can tell you whether it is a good fit.
Matching the service to the device
Devices differ greatly in the data they use. Tell us what the device does and how often it reports, and we will help you estimate its usage so that the service matches the job.

Questions
Common questions
Can I use a Sturdy SIM in a mobile phone?
Sturdy SIM is a data-only service made for connected devices. It does not provide voice calling and is not intended to replace a mobile phone plan.
What is the difference between an IoT SIM and a regular SIM?
A regular SIM belongs to one carrier and is sold with a plan for a person, including voice and text. An IoT SIM is made for equipment: it carries data, is intended for unattended use, and in the case of Sturdy SIM can connect to more than 200 networks.
